Once ETIAS starts in the first half of 2025, it will be possible to ask a travel agent, a friend, or a family member to fill out and submit the application for you. While applying for an ETIAS travel authorisation will be a simple online process, below are a few things to keep in mind if someone else does it on your behalf.
1. Choose an intermediary you trust. Getting an ETIAS travel authorisation will require you to provide sensitive personal information, such as passport data, your home address and phone number. Therefore, it is important that you choose your intermediary cautiously and be careful to avoid scammers.
2. Remember to sign a formal authorisation. Both you and the intermediary will need to sign a formal declaration of representation. The declaration, which will be made available on the official ETIAS website, is a written proof of that you authorise the intermediary to fill out and submit the application on your behalf or on behalf of a minor over whom you exercise parental authority/legal guardianship. Note that if you are travelling in a group, every member of your group will need to fill out a separate declaration.
3. Watch out for excessive service fees. Any intermediary will have to use the official ETIAS website or mobile app to submit the application, which will cost EUR 7 per application. Commercial intermediaries may charge you an additional fee for their services – always make sure to check if the extra fee is reasonable.
